Visit to Fortis Gurugram

An educational visit to ‘FORTIS HOSPITAL, GURUGRAM’ was organized by School of Architecture and Planning (SOAP) on 3rd August 2017 for the 4th year students of Architecture, as a part of their curriculum of ‘Architecture Design’. The faculties accompanying the students were Ar. Hemani Singh and Ar. Nisha Sharma. The aim of this visit is to make students understand the concept, idea, functionality and services of hospital buildings. The hospital was designed by Ar. Rajinder Kumar.

At the hospital site the students understood the following aspects of site planning :

  • location,
  • entrance,
  • access,
  • parking,
  • building façade,
  • volume and voids proportions, etc.

 

The students observed floor wise planning on different floors. Basement

  • Radiation therapy

 

Lower ground floor

  • Radiology

  • Physiotherapy

 

Upper ground

  • Maternity ward

  • Finance department
  • Shop arcade
  • Health checkup

 

First floor

  • Maternity surgical & IDR
  • Chemo and dialysis
  • Auditorium
  • General ward
  • Blood band/ lab

 

Second floor

  • Surgical suites

  • Cath labs

 

Third and fourth floor

  • Single and dual occupancy rooms Fifth floor
  • Conference Rooms
  • Suites

 

The students observed the different functions of the hospital and prepared a presentation based on the following:

  • the segregation of public, semi-public and private spaces
  • placement of different functions
  • floor wise segregation
  • blocking and Area analysis
  • open and built proportions
  • Vertical and horizontal connectivity of different functions.
  • Services.
