International Conference on ELLCIATLS-2017

School of Humanities at K.R.Mangalam University organized a 2-day international conference on 3rd& 4th of February 2017 on the topic “English Language, Literature & Communication: Innovations & Applications in the Teaching – Learning Scenario”. The conference was inaugurated by Prof.(Dr.)Bhim Singh Dahiya, the former Vice Chancellor of Kurukshetra University. The inaugural session was graced by the esteemed presence of dignitaries like Prof.StephanosStephanides, an internationally acclaimed poet, film maker, critic and translator; and also Professor of English and Comparative literature at the University of Cyprus; Prof.Keki N.Daruwalla, the renowned Indian Poet writer in English; Prof.(Dr.)K.K.Aggarwal, the honourable Chancellor of K.R.Mangalam University, Prof.(Dr.)Subhash. C.Gupta, thehon’ble Pro Vice Chancellor of K.R.Mangalam University. The Conference Proceedings was released by the chief guest Prof.(Dr.)Bhim Singh Dahiya along with the Guests of Honour: Prof.(Dr.)StephanosStephined from Cyprus and Prof.(Dr.)Keki.N.Daruwalla , the renowned Indian Poet and Short Story Writer in English, Prof.(Dr.)K.K.Aggarwal, the Hon’ble Chancellor of KRMU, Prof.(Dr.)Subhash .C.Gupta, the Hon’ble Pro Vice Chancellor of KRMU and Prof.(Dr.)Omana Antony, the Convener of ELLCIATLS-2017. There were about 122 paper presenters, around 45 delegates just for attending the conference, 16 Resource persons and 7 international delegates. The 2-day conference was designed with a very meaningful academic activities like Keynote address by Prof.(Dr.)RukminiBhaya Nair from IIT Delhi who spoke on how classrooms can be converted to chatrooms – a very innovative trend. There were two plenary sessions. One session was by Prof.(Dr.)StephanosStephanides, the Professor of English from the University of Cyprus, who had a very interactive session on “ Why we talk about while we talk about poetry”; The second session was by Prof.(Dr.)Ami Upadhyay from Dr.Ambedkar Open University, Ahmedabad who discussed the role of performing art in communication. Creative session on “How Poetry can be used for Communication in the Digital Era” was one of the most appreciated activities of ELLCIATLS-2017. The renowned writers and poets like Mrs.SujataParashar, Mrs.Dolly Singh, Mr.Kulpreet and the icon Prof.Keki N.Daruwalla made this session most effective and useful to all the participants. Panel Discussion on the topic “ English in the Age of Social Media: Pedagogy and the Language” was one of the major attractions of ELLCIATLS-2017 with very valuable insight to the English Language Teachers about how to go ahead with the language generation class activities when there is an exuberance of the influence of social media on English language. Mr.Gana Sow from Senigal, Mr.CaesarLorento from Spain, Mr.RajivSahore from the British Council, Moscow, Mr.Deviego from Peru and Prof.(Dr.)Sandhya Tiwari from Hyderabad were the panellists of this effective discussion. Workshops of ELLCIATLS-2017 were amazing platforms that created an atmosphere of practical experience. Workshop by Prof.(Dr.)R.Purnima from Mysuru on Enactment of Literary texts; by Prof.(Dr.)KirtiKapur from NCERT, Delhi on how language, literature and communication act as source to humanise and sensitise in an ELT Classroom; and how Intonation can be used for communication.The four workshops on topics of high significance in English language acquisition gave a very powerful practical experience for the participants with a new insight about how to make their classroom teaching more effective Paper Presentation Sessions of ELLCIATLS-2017 were really thought provoking intellectual sessions. Nearly 120 people from all over India and abroad presented their papers in three sessions of six parallel venues. Well experienced subject experts chaired the sessions. The sessions lead to very useful interactions and sharing of information. Cultural programme in the evening of the first day of the Conference was a pleasurable relaxation for each delegate after the hectic intellectual activities. The street play by the students of KRMU Theatre Society, the Semi-classical Dance Performance by Ms.Mahima of KRMU and the enacting of Prof.(Dr.)R.Purnima from Mysuru really entertained the gathering. The Faculty members of SOHS,SOED,SOFD& SJMC along with the student volunteers and the non-teaching staff of IT, Admin, HR, Hostel, Finance & Transport dept. worked hard to meet all the requirements and to make this conference a great success. The Valedictory Function was presided over by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof.(Dr.)R.K.Mittal. The prizes for the Best Paper Presentation Award Winners were given away by the Vice Chancellor. In the Valedictory address, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the Organizing team for the successful conduct of the Conference ELLCIATLS-2017. He thanked all the participants.
