A visit to Surajkund International Crafts Mela, Faridabad was organized for the students of School of Journalism and Mass Communication, School of Humanities, School of Fashion and School of Education on Monday 13th February 2017. The novelty of the Surajkund International Crafts Mela is that one of the Indian states gets the honour to occupy the position of the Theme State each year. The Theme State was conceptualized broadly with a view to promote and focus on art, craft and cuisine of each state of India every year. Jharkhand was the Theme State for the 31st Surajkund International Crafts Mela-2017. The Mela provides a rare opportunity to the Theme State to showcase its handicrafts, handlooms, performing arts, cuisine and its tourist potential to a vast cross-section of people in an impressive manner. The students collected information on Indian culture and heritage, gathered information about exhibitors and their products, visited media centre, spoke to organizers and understood process of event management. It was a perfect location to click variety of bright and exclusive photographs. The multi-cuisine Food Courts provides ethnic cuisines from all over the world, which are immensely popular with visitors. It was indeed a learning experience for the students as they visited the media corner and interacted with PROs there. They learned about event management and media handling of the fair. The students of education department witnessed art and crafts being done at the fair. It is one of the kind annual craft mela that showcase the richness of handicrafts, handlooms and traditions of India.
