23 October 2019
K.R. Mangalam University
“Educational Institutes can play an important role in inculcating gender sensitivity in etiquettes and manners of the students. It is necessary to create a gender responsive set-up in the society for the academic, social and physical growth of students”, said Prof Kiran Bala; Presiding Officer, Internal Complaints Committee, while conducting a workshop on Gender Sensitisation in K R Mangalam University on Oct 23, 2019. The workshop was conducted for the students of School of Journalism and Mass Communication, School of Fashion, School of Education and School of Humanities.
The objective of the workshop was to create awareness amongst the students about gender roles, their rights and Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. More than 100 students attended the workshop.
Women and men are often restricted to particular roles in our society depending on the gender. It is high time that we should create awareness among students, especially boys, about gender sensitisation to tackle beliefs which pertain to gender bias. We should create a society which builds the kind of individuals we wish to see in the world. Therefore, it is imperative that we lay strong emphasis on inculcating values of equality amongst our students.
The session was coordinated by Dr Sheelpa Sweety, Assistant Professor, SOHS and Ms. Shikha Sharma, Assistant Professor, SJMC.
