As the world copes with the pressure of controlling the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to provide accurate information has grown exponentially. The constant and indispensable role of media makes is relevant to known the media landscape post covid-19. To understand the present scenario and discuss the changes, School of Journalism and Mass Communication conducted a webinar on “Media as a career post Covid-era” for aspiring journalism students on 15th May 2020. The key speaker for the webinar was anaccomplished media professional, Prof. Ambrish Saxena, Dean, Delhi Metropolitan Education Media School, Noida. Prof. Saxena has played a long inning in active journalism ranging from print, radio, television to films, before switching over to media academics.
Prof. Saxena discussed that like every other sector there will be change in media sector as well and print media, sports journalism may get off for a while because of present circumstances. But the technological advancements and pandemic can never put an end to any form of media. Thus, the working of media might see few changes in ownership pattern, revenue model, dissemination process. He also emphasized on importance of studying media studies and its role in creating professionals who are more refined and expert in their work once they enter industry. The webinar was successful with over 200 participants who connected and discussed their queries. The webinar was hosted by Ms. Mehak Pandit, Assistant Professor, School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
