Webinar on Key Learning in the Interdisciplinary Project on Covid-19

School of Hotel Management and Catering Technology conducted a webinar on Key Learning in the Interdisciplinary Project on Covid-19 by Mr. Vivek Sharma, Assistant Professor, SOHMCT and Project Guide of students working on Covid-19 Project. The session was conducted on 17th May 2020 and was moderated by the Prof. M. P. Verma, Dean, SOHMCT.

Mr. Vivek addressing the audience said “Working with the students from different streams is quite interesting and a unique experience as they are new to the different aspects of the project. Our project was a combined effort of School of Architecture & Planning (SOAP) and School of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (SOHMCT).”

The theme was “Conversion of Community Spaces into Quarantine Zones” and more than 60 students contributed in it.

The theme assigned to Hotel Management students was “Role of Hotels” in converting the hotel spaces into quarantine zones.

The speaker further added “The sub-theme was quite interesting as the hotels being in private business came out in support of the govt. of different states and the centre. The hotel companies across the world also supported the govt. of various countries in converting the hotel rooms in quarantine zones. The hotel companies also prepared meals for the affected people and many a times they offered their premises for the stay of medical staff of the local hospitals.”

During the webinar he mentioned that the interaction with the students was quite interesting one as most of the students do not belong to this industry and are unaware of the functioning of the hotels. Hence, making them understand about the concept and also the fact that learning from different disciplines can be very helpful in shaping their future endevours. Some students were quite interested in working on the project and found it quite valuable to their overall understanding of the project.
