On 17th May 2020, School of Legal Studies (SOLS), K.R.Mangalam University organised a webinar on the topic “Cyber Crime against Females” by Ms. Namrita Aggarwal, Additional District & Session Judge, New Delhi, presently posted as Additional Secretary, Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA).

The session started with a brief introduction about Cyber Crimes by Dr. Kaveri Sharma, School Coordinator, SOLS. Ms. Sara Yadav, a student of BBA LL.B. introduced the Guest Speaker.

Ms. Namrita Aggarwalbegan with fundamental information related to cyber-crimes such as its meaning, the various kinds of offences mentioned under Information Technology Act, 2000, their punishments, courts having jurisdiction to try such offences. She discussed various measures which can be adopted by the users while interacting or sharing their information in digital world. She explained some of the frequently committed cyber-crimes in today’s world like Cyber stalking, online defamation, sextortion, cyber bullying, Online harassment, pornography, hacking etc. As the topic was very much in news recently in few cases, she asked the audience to be more alert and suggested that one should not share his/her personal information with anyone unless that person is trustworthy. She said that people are sometimes not even aware that they have become a victim or perpetrator of a cyber-crime, which makes the offence even more serious in nature.

The lecture was followed by question answer round in which the attendees asked questions related to general safeguards to be taken to prevent themselves from being a victim of cyber-crimes as well as case specific questions like the famous Bois locker room issue.

It was an enlightening session and was attended by more than 200 people including the school students who were inquisitive in knowing more about the topic.
