School of Legal Studies conducted a webinar organized by District legal Services Authority on the topic The Protection of women from Domestic Violence Act: It’s enforcement and awareness on 27th June 2020.
The session started with the opening note of Sh. Chanderjit Singh, Secretary,New Delhi District Legal Services Authority, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi. He informed that the recent data released by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) which suggests that the nationwide lockdown has led to a rapid increase in cases of domestic violence has called up the discussion on the Domestic Violence Act, 2005. The discussion was focused on the problems which women have been facing at their homes.
The prominent speakers were Shri.Dinesh Sharma, District and Sessions Judge, New Delhi, Chairperson DLSA, Justice Sangita Dhingra Jindal, Professor Binod Tripathi, Madam Kamlesh Gautam.
The speakers discussed that Delhi is at third position in the cases of domestic violence after Uttarakhand and Haryana.There are different kinds of domestic violence Physical, Sexual, Financial, Mental abuse,Humiliation, and Intimidation. Further, it was discussed that how the domestic violence has become so vulnerable that different issues have risen up to stress, irritation, hormonal imbalanceetc., and human rights of a human being is being violated.
Justice Sangita Dhingra Jindal discussed that what kind of problems they are dealing with the domestic violence cases and further she has discussed the Domestic Violence Act 2005 its enforcement as well as the punishments. It was a very informative session and gave new insight into the legal protection one has in case of domestic violence. All the students and faculty of SOLS, KRMU attended the session.
