Lecture on “Sports broadcast media in crisis: is eSports the answer”
School of Journalism and Mass Communication organized a lecture on “Sports broadcast media in crisis: is eSports the answer?” by Ms. Laura from Journalism Department, South Bank University, London on 1st November 2018.
Laura-Jane Filotrani is currently the course director for BA (Hons) Journalism. Laura-Jane comes from a background of consumer publications, trade papers, local news and the national press. She has worked cross-medium and cross-platform and is an experienced website builder with the CMS WordPress.
Ms. Laura highlighted the growth and need to eSports in India and shared latest trends on the industry. She discussed about popularity of e-sports, changing viewing patterns of audience, current trends of the e-sports industry. There is a shift in audience preference from traditional platforms to digital media. As an aspiring journalist, students are required to understand the working and scope of eSports in India and at global level. With audiences becoming more fragmented, more disparate and less loyal, the industry is looking for ways to inject new life into a struggling sector. Against this backdrop there is the incredible growth in esports both from spectators attending live events and participants online.
It was informative and learning experience for the students.
