July 3, 2020: School of Legal Studies (SOLS) and Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), KRMU organized a Webinar on Cyber Crime: A menace during Lockdown. The session was conducted by Mr Aditya Gautam, ACP, Cyber Cell, New Delhi. The Session was attended by 140 students(approx.).
Mr. Aditya Gautam, a DANIPS officer of 2013 batch, currently posted as ACP Cyber Cell. A computer science graduate from BIT Mesra, Ranchi and MBA from MDI Gurgaon. Previous postings include ACP Operations, South West District, ACP Operations, Dwarka District and ACP Crime Branch. Been in cyber cell for almost one and a half years.
During the session, Mr. Gautam shared various instances that have been reported for the cyber frauds, hacking, cyber stalking etc. He said that there has been an increase in such crimes during the lockdown. He cautioned the participants to refrain themselves from sharing any personal information or pictures online as they leave a digital footprint even after the same has been deleted by the sender/ receiver of such information. He also discussed about the legal provisions of Information Technology Act, 2000 and said that it still needs to be amended. Citing cases like Bois Locker Room, he shared the circumstances which a person can face for the acts done just for “having fun”.
The curious audience asked many questions like the precautions which one can take to prevent himself from becoming a victim of a cyber-crime and what plan of action can be followed if the crime has been committed. Mr. Gautam in his reply shared a list of Do’s and Don’ts and also told about the online portals on which complaints against cyber offences can be lodged.
A highly interactive session for about 2 hours received a huge appreciation for the Guest Speaker from the audience.
