What Is CTET Exam?

CTET is an eligibility exam administered at the national level to make sure that only competent and qualified people with superior teaching abilities and knowledge are hired at various central government and affiliated schools throughout India. The test is administered by the CBSE in two distinct cycles: cycle 1 and cycle 2.

CTET Exam Pattern

There will be two distinct papers for the pen-paper exam: Paper I for Classes 1–5 and Paper II for Classes 6–8. There is no negative marking, and the questions are MCQ-style, and each of them is of 1 mark.  Candidates can choose to appear for either one or both papers, depending on their qualifications and the level they wish to teach.

CTET Exam Date in 2026

The CTET Exam Date 2026 has finally been released by the CBSE on its official website, www.ctet.nic.in. The CBSE CTET February 2026 test is set on February 8, 2026, according to the announcement that was made public. The exam will be administered in two separate hours, with the first shift scheduled from 09:30 AM to 12:00 PM and the second shift from 02:30 PM to 05:00 PM.

CTET Exam Eligibility

Candidates are recommended to thoroughly review the comprehensive CTET eligibility criteria, test format, and syllabus before proceeding to any phase. They will be better able to determine their eligibility for the test if they are aware of all these factors beforehand.

Below are the CTET exam’s eligibility criteria:

Eligibility Criteria Explanation
Nationality Candidates must be Indian nationals in order to take the Central Teacher Eligibility Test. The exam officials have made it an obligatory eligibility condition. Candidates cannot apply for or take the CTET 2026 if they are not Indian citizens.
Age Limit Candidates must be at least 18 years old to take the CTET 2026 exam. The CBSE has established this minimum age requirement. Candidates of any age over 18 may apply for the exam; nevertheless, there is no maximum age restriction. This eliminates age-related barriers for prospective educators of all ages to pursue teaching jobs through CTET 2026.
Paper I Candidates are eligible for CTET paper II if they have passed or are appearing in Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with 45%–50% marks along with a recognised teacher education qualification such as Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed – 2 years), Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed – 4 years), or Diploma in Education (2 years). Additionally, candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree with a B.Ed qualification are also eligible to apply.
Paper II Candidates are eligible for CTET Paper II if they have completed or are appearing in the final year of a relevant teacher education programme. This includes graduates with a Diploma in Elementary Education (2 years), or a B.Ed. with 50% marks (or 40% marks as per NCTE norms). Students who have passed Senior Secondary (12th) with 50% marks and are pursuing or have completed Bachelor of Elementary Education (4 years), B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed., or B.A/B.Sc.Ed. are also eligible. Additionally, graduates enrolled in a 1-year B.Ed. programme with the required marks can apply for CTET Paper II.
